A year later than originally scheduled, but the 4 yearly marathon is back with a slightly re-vamped route in 2022.
This is Britain’s equivalent of Paris-Brest-Paris and whilst it doesn’t have the tradition, roadside carnival atmosphere and notoriety of the French icon, it probably has a better route and is longer. Not for the faint hearted, this is a straight through ride, you will need to sleep and eat, but this does not have a finish line at the end of each day, you will need to choose when and where. You must do the ride within 125 hours.
Riders must pass through controls (usually schools) where there will be food in the canteen and sleeping allowed on the gym floor, but the main purpose is to get their Brevet Cards stamped to prove that they have passed through.
It all takes place from 7th August to 12th August 2022, entry costs £350 but includes food and shelter as described above. It is a huge logistical exercise of course, and is actually well worth thev entry fee. However, whether or not you can get an entry may prove harder than the ride itself:
Guaranteed Places
If you belong to any of the following groups, you will be able to enter and pay immediately between 7-14 January 2022.
- London Edinburgh London 2017 and Windsor Chester Windsor 2019 volunteers
- Audax UK or Audax Ireland members who were members on 12 September 2018, and remain members on 1 January 2022.
- Anyone who has completed an event validated by Les Randonneurs Mondiaux in four out of five calendar years 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 (four events in total).
- Anyone who brings a spouse or immediate family relative (parent, child, sibling) to volunteer, both at London and another control, for at least three full days.
Entry by Ballot
For all other riders, entry is by ballot. You will be able to enter the ballot between 7-14 January 2022. The organisers will then invite selected riders to enter, until they have taken 1750 entries. There will be no waiting list after this.
Good luck all!
