It’s London-Edinburgh-London 2022 and West London Cycling have a few riders on their way ….
London-Edinburgh-London is a 1500km ride from London/Essex to Dunfermline and back, which is the UK’s equivalent of Paris-Brest-Paris, albeit a lot newer! Riders must ride the route in under 125 hours, getting their Brevet cards stamped at the controls along the way to prove that they did it.
The controls are, typically, schools or community halls en-route and riders can eat there and even have the luxury of sleeping on the hall floor for an hour or two. But they cannot sleep for too long with that time limit ever present!
West London Cyclists doing the ride include, Bryn Evans (AM22), David Tobin (Y15), Dave Morrison (LB21), Gautam Thakkar ((LC26), Stu Thorn ((TBA) and Syed Shah (AN7). Meanwhile Steve Britt and Liam Fitzpatrick are helping with the running of the event. You can track them using the rider numbers (in the brackets) here:
LEL happens every 4 years, but the 2021 edition was held over until 2022 due to COVID. If you have missed out this time, it is worth noting that the 1200km Paris-Brest-Paris is back in 2023, on its 4 year cycle (so to speak). You’ll have to wait another 3 or 4 years for LEL of course!
