Hodges Holds on in tight sprint finish at Fifield in West London VR Race 6.5

Predicting these races is becoming difficult, we had a new rider win and two new lady riders take the first and fourth spots in Ladies League. But that, in itself, doesn’t tell the story of absolute pressure from beginning to end as the front peeton was thinned down, and thinned down …. and then thinned down. This was brutal attrition and aggression from some great athletes who should all hold their heads high.

In the end the buch sprint we anticipated was far smaller than we had predicted but it was absolutely intense …. Brain Hodges and Moreno Ceccon both timed their sprints with aplomb, but Moreno may have wished he had gone a moment earlier …. it was so close on the line that it was impossible to call in the commentary with RGT showing the wrong result initially. Ydnew Nitram won her first race in the Ladies League on her debut, however her w/kg at 5 seems very high compared to her previous races and an eBiopassport will be required for her result to stand. Anastasia Afanasieva took second. Anastasia is making good progress after 3 races in Ladies League and could finish in the top three. However, the top three places are currently occupied by Caroline Reuter (RIAK), Wendy Wonderwheels Gallagher (RIAK) and Danielle Gaunt (West London) each of whom have ridden 5 races. RIAK Women extended their lead at the top of the Ladies Teams Classification whilst Twickenham put in a strong showing to hold their challenge to West London Ladies who currently sit second.

In the general teams NoPinz R3R are clear of Racio Racing Black who were missing riders tonight, although Rasio Racing Orange moved up nicely with some strong results. Check out the full list via the standings link above.
