Whatever your view on Health & Safety, it’s fairly indisputable that road bikes on icy roads is not a good recipe for an incident free Sunday Ride. With the forecast for Sunday 11th December showing sub-zero temperatures until 1pm we are looking at the alternatives, which include a later / afternoon start on a different course plus a 9am Group Ride online. There will be rides with West London Cycling this Sunday. Fair play to Steve Mannel, or Captain Beardfreeze as you can see from the picture above, for testing the conditions Saturday morning ….. a great advert for indoor riding on icy days! Thanks Steve.
PLEASE FOLLOW THE WEST LONDON CYCLING WHATSAPP GROUP FOR DETAILS OF ANY OUTDOOR RIDES AND START TIMES. We have earmarked the Tour de Hillingdon route as it is more urban and any start will not be before 11am. As we say, any decsion will be announced via the Whatsapp Group.
WE HAVE SET UP A 40km FREE RIDE ON CADEsport WITH AUDIO AT 9am, SO ANYONE WITH A SMART TRAINER CAN JOIN THE SOCIAL RIDE ONLINE. PLEASE SET TO ProPOWER WHEN JOINING THE RACE SO THAT ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE EQUALIZED, IT’S A RIDE NOT A RACE.
Crashing is set but the sweeping bends on the CADE FONDO COURSE make crashing unlikely. Here’s a preview of the course:
Details of how to get started on CADEsport are below. If you haven’t tried it yet, this is a great way to experience the ground-breaking features without being in race conditions. Also, we should be chatting via the audio channel, so who needs a coffee stop?
The alternative outdoor route suggestion is the Tour de Hillingdon 77km but it may still require adaptation if the ice is particularly long lasting.
The contingency set up, a 40km indoor ride for those with Smart Trainers, is on CADEsport which is currently free to use (but will not be forever!). Please select Pro-Power when you join the race so that riders are equalized and also select ‘Playlist’ in the audio selections so that we can all chat during the ride. Crashing on corners is a possibility, so a chance to practice cornering and discuss with clubmates, and not as painful as outdoor icy crashes. However, the course has mainly sweeping bends and not a lot of gradient so you may well not crash at all. This has been set up as a ride not a race.

GET IN NOW, AND SEE FOR YOURSELF JUST HOW EXCITING THIS FORMAT IS. SIGN UP FOR SUNDAY 11th DECEMBER’s RIDE
We have this ride for Sunday 11th December at 9am UK Time. It is 40km long with crashing on corners and, again, it is Equalized so that all riders have equivalent power. Set your power to Pro-Power as you join the ride and choose ‘Playlist’ on the Audio options in order to chat with the other riders.
To join the race, in CADEsport, go to activities / races and scroll down to the West London Race OR go to Activities / Search and enter ‘West Londonn VR’.
Remember, we have now enabled crashing on corners so familiarise yourself with the braking and steering functions on CADEsport. You can attach your phone to your handlebars, move your phone directionally by hand, use the phone app controls or use your PC keyboard’s arrow keys for steering, whilst you can brake using the phone companion app or the spacebar on your PC.
