There’s something special about a Christmas morning cycle ride, the roads are relatively empty and an early start means you can miss the traffic and still get back for Sunday lunch.
We are aiming to raise money to support research into Duchenne Disease, which kills all young boys who have it before they reach 20. It’s a rare condition and gets allocated very little funding for research as it is not a mainstream disease. Nick Taussig helped inspire this event, he has two sons with it. He was recently telling us recently that there have been some breakthroughs recently, sady too late for his elder son, but we sincerely hope that this breakthrough can be taken further … it’s not a cure but is a step forward. So, a nice early 8am start and the weather wasn’t too bad, so an enjoyable jaunt around Harrow and Hillingdon with a brief foray into Buckinghamshire was enjoyed by all. Lean Evans won the best/worst* Christmas Top (*Delete as appropriate). Seven West London Cyclists came out to ride, Hang Pang met the six ‘full value’ riders en route at Harrow. If you missed it, make sure you tell the relatives to put back Christmas lunch an hour next year so that you can join the ride…. it really is one of those special days.
We’re out again on Boxing Day, a 9am start from the Polish War Memorial and about 70km riding … then at 7.30pm it’s Wacky Races as we do our Christmas Twister ride indoors on CADEsport …. this is going to be bonkers, expect crashing on the Water Village course on CADEsport … onlinr racing for your family to laugh at whilst you crash. Pre Race alcohol is permitted, whether or not it’s a good idea? We’ll let you decide.
Having hardened ourselves up with the recent wet and cold spell, forecasts suggests that temperatures should be rising in time for the annual Festive 500 quest … 500km over 8 days from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Eve. We have set up rides for every day at the Polish War Memorial (A40 Ruislip / Northolt) and you can also complete the dustance using online rides …. in fact we have a fun CADEsport race on Boxing Day at 7.30pm UK Time in the evening.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is relatively rare and, consequently, receives very little funding. It affects boys, all of whom will die before they are 20. We have been raising money for research this way for a while and we are pleased to say that there have been some recent medical breakthroughs. But there is still a long way to go. Harrison is a young boy with Duchenne Disease and the charity was set up by his father whom we were introduced to by Film Producer Nick Taussig who has two sons with Duchenne. These families go through a lot, so why not put yourself through it a bit between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and raise a £100 for charity (or more)?
