WEST LONDON CYCLING

West London and Chilterns Cycling … plus loads more

A Sunday Ride Saunderton Sensation is in store (including an optional challenge for the anti-gravity grimpeurs: The Whiteleaf SufferSnood Scrap…. A contest for West London Cycling Grimpeurs the quickest rider up wins a West London Cycling Snood). There is a second route for the more level-headed, avoiding Whiteleaf. Coffee at Saunderton.

Another new route from West London Cycling … with or without Whiteleaf (you can avoid it) this is a great chance to discover the Chilterns.

AS THE SHORT ROUTE RIDE (AVOIDING WHITELEAF) PASSES THE TOP OF THE CLIMB, IT MAY BE POSSIBLE FOR SHORT ROUTE RIDERS TO STOP AT THE TOP OF WHITELEAF / KOP HILL AND CHEER THE LONG ROUTE CHALLENGE RIDERS OVER THE LINE. IT MAY BE AN IDEA TO START THE LONG ROUTE RIDERS 10 MINUTES AFTER THE SHORT ROUTES LEAVE THE POLISH WAR MEMORIAL IN ORDER TO ENSURE SHORT ROUTE RIDERS ARE IN PLACE EARLY. ALL RIDERS COULD THEN RIDE TOGETHER TO THE CAFE AT SAUNDERTON.

Be at the Polish War Memorial (A40 Ruislip / Northolt) at 9am to join up and ride!

You can choose your route on the day, and which group you ride in. We generally have several groups on the road, depending on how many people are riding, so it’s flexible and tailored to riders’ needs. The slowest group will generally wait for the slowest rider (or split into sub groups) but you should be able to manage 30kph on flat stretches with an average speed of around 22kph over the distance. Faster groups will be more speedy of course.

Just turn up at 9am at the Polish War Memorial (A40 Ruislip / Northolt) with the route downloaded on your device. To get the route you need to sign up (free – see button above to subscribe) and then you’ll have access to our routes via the members’ zone tab above (choose routes and rides).

As noted above, we decide on the day as to how many groups we split into, it really depends on who turns up. The faster groups will usually do the longer of the two options with the aim of us all reaching coffee stops at similar times

The big star prize for the fastest climb up Whiteleaf on our Sunday Club ride is a beautifully crafted breathable snood in resplendent West London Cycling colours with full logo in stretch fabric that with ensure that your wonderful facial profile will be maintained in all its aerodynaic glory.

The winner will be the fastest recorded time on th Strava Segment below from riders attending our club ride on 10th September 2023:

OPTION ONE: Saunderton without Whiteleaf 94km

OPTION Two: Saunderton with Whiteleaf 97km … note the ‘witches hat’ shaped spike in the middle, up Whiteleaf and down Kop Hill
