It seems that whilst everyone was reading the script about demonstrating to Wahoo that the RGT platform has a strong core following, many overlooked the race deatils and, errr, welll ….. IT WAS A NO DRAFT RACE ….. like an Individual Time Trial but with a mass start. Oh dear! Ooops, many left wondering why the race had no groups, why there was no draft and why it was so hard etc ….. ah well guys, a good workout then ?
The turnout and the racing were superb, those who rely on the bunch less were very positive afterwards. One rider suggested that we just called them ITTs in future but with a mass start so that peole knew where they were in the race …. hmmm, seems like a good idea. Series 8 starts on 4th October, maybe we could tweak the ITT in that series?
Well done Sam Josh on a fine win, Doug Hart finishing strongly in second and Aileen Davidson taking the Ladies League win again.
But for many, this was a show of support for the platform. There is a lot of speculation that Wahoo’s unholy alliance with Zwift spells trouble for RGT’s future. We aim to send a clear signal to Wahoo that they are squandering a good platform and should get behind it ….. we’ll see whether they are listening, not something they have a good track record of unfortunately. Remember Wahoo, other hardware brands are available, please don’t upset your (hitherto) core followers!
As if the threat to our RGT Magic Roads ecosystem wasn’t enough, RGTdb decided to close down unexpectedly and unannounced the day before our race. Many thanks to ZMS and OTR (Damon ates and James Ogilvie) for working through the night to supply a results service for the stream …. above and beyond guys, RGT heroes! By the way, look out for OTR’s Festival of Cycling on RGT in mid-October.
Thanks to every rider who supported us in this, to RGT Users on Facebook for backing our Save RGT campaign and all of the good wishes we received. Great to see some old faces back on RGT for tis one …. and what about all those historic reels ZMS put out before and after the livestream …. another cracking production Damon!
IWhen the going gets tough, the tough get going. the commentary is remote from the production …. guess what, Dave’s internet connection was playing up. It affected the sound ZMS were receiving and Dave had a really bad picture on screen, making it hard to pick out the riders ….. but we battled on ….
These will be days to remember whether RGT survives r not, but if you were part of this, you were one of the ones who tried to make a difference …. we live to fight another day. Please ride RGT races whenever you can to support the platform.
