Five riders started the 150km Festive 500 starter ride, but at the outset there were doubts as to how far each rider might go in the weather conditions. Fortunately the route is a series of loops allowing riders to miss a loop should they decide to trim their distance. In the high winds, Ian Nguru was suffering with deep rims in the wind and swung left at Windsor Great Park to complete Loop One, as did Marlon Sirano. Bryn Evans, Hang Pang and Richard Hall all did two of the three loops.
Another 13 riders turned up an hour later for the shorter Fat Duck, Fine Riding Club Run, although Dave Morrison ultimately decided against riding for medical reasons.
