WEST LONDON CYCLING

West London and Chilterns Cycling … plus loads more

It’s a double header this weekend, with the epic Anuual Brighton Beano Ride on Saturday and a brand new route short, flatish, recovery ride on Sunday with a brand new cafe stop. Don’t miss out, do both!

On theSaturday 11th May we set off at 8am with 100km or 200km options. The 100km riders can gets trains back to London from Brighton. Trains back cost around £15 (Group tickets can save you money) and we suggest getting the Thameslink trains and changing at Farringdon for the Metropolitan or Elizabeth lines back to West London. This is tried and tested, and whilst there other alternatives, this is definitely the favoured route back.

The ride out ends at Brighton Pier where we have Fish and Chips on the beach. Some even take a dip in the sea (lycra can dry quite fast in the sun). Brighton Station is a five minute ride (uphill) from the beach.

Alternatively, some of us ride back making it a 200km DIY Audax ride (and thus claiming Audax points).

We will split into speed groups and there is at least one cafe stop en-route, although some riders stopped twice last time. Naturally, those riding the 200km option are likely to be in faster groups. The route is relatively unhilly, but there are noteworthy climbs in Surrey and at Steyning. Generally though, this is a very manageable route.

There is an unofficial stop for faster riders at The Queen Stage (A cycling cafe) at Effingham 42km

There is an official stop at Billy’s On The Road after Five Oaks just before Billinghurst at 71.6km

We will form groups of different paced riders for the ride, you can choose your group, but with the stops and the long stop on the beach, we have always seen regrouping such that slower groups tend to catch the faster ones at the stops, keeping it social.

Be at the Polish War Memorial at 8am Saturday 11th May for the West London Cycling Brighton Beano.

Another Brand Spanking New Route this Sunday to round off your Brighton Beano weekend …. a new local route & cafe for you recovery and recreation starting at 9am from the Polish War Memorial (A40 Ruislip / Northolt) Sunday 12th May

Not too far on Sunday following the annual Brighton Beano Ride on Saturday. THis route is the ideal Recovery Ride, with manageable ascent and distance. A new cafe stop for us, at the San Remo Cafe Langley Park with a Rusty Bike Cafe finish in Uxbridge. Yet another brand spanking new route brought to you by West London Cycling. Start 9am Sunday 12th May from the Polish War Memorial (A40 Ruislip / Northolt.

OPTION ONE: Langley Lanes 58km

OPTION TWO: Langley Lanes Longer 61km

You can choose your route on the day, and which group you ride in. We generally have several groups on the road, depending on how many people are riding, so it’s flexible and tailored to riders’ needs. The slowest group will generally wait for the slowest rider (or split into sub groups) but you should be able to manage 30kph on flat stretches with an average speed of around 22kph over the distance. Faster groups will be more speedy of course.

Just turn up at 9am at the Polish War Memorial (A40 Ruislip / Northolt) with the route downloaded on your device. To get the route you need to sign up (free – see button above to subscribe) and then you’ll have access to our routes via the members’ zone tab above (choose routes and rides).

As noted above, we decide on the day as to how many groups we split into, it really depends on who turns up. The faster groups will usually do the longer of the two options with the aim of us all reaching coffee stops at similar times
