WEST LONDON CYCLING

West London and Chilterns Cycling … plus loads more

It’s one of those eagerly awaited weekends, it’s the Brighton Veteran Car Rally Ride on Sunday 3rd November …. or if you want to stay local, it’s the ever popular Fat Duck Ride (the Boulters version as the Rusty Bike is currently closed)

The annual Brighton Veteran Car Ride has become a popular fixture on the West London Cycling Calendar … a straightforward ride to Crawley (8am start at the Polish War Memorial) then we enjoy cycling along with all the cars … which are over 100years old. Look out for the old bicycles too, an addition in recent years. We have fish and chips at the beach and then get the train back to London Farringdon (to change onto the Metropolitan or Elizabeth Lines)

Not everyone has all day to spend on a trip to Brighton, so for everyone else, our usual 9am club ride will start, as usual from the Polish War Memorial and is that perennial favourite, the Fat Duck Ride (using the current Boulters Lock Cafe detour as the Rusty Bike Cafe is currently closed).

The Brighton Route: 113km (train back) 1,000m ascent (8am start)

The Fat Duck Waterside Boult route OPTION 1 58km 304m ascent

OPTION 2 Fat Duck Waterside Boult Extra 63km 342m ascent

Just turn up at 8am or 9am at the Polish War Memorial (A40 Ruislip / Northolt) with the route downloaded on your device. To get the route you need to sign up (free – see button above to subscribe) and then you’ll have access to our routes via the members’ zone tab above (choose routes and rides).

We decide on the day as to how many groups we split into (usually 4 groups during summer) it really depends on who turns up. The faster groups will usually do the longer of the two options with the aim of us all reaching coffee stops at similar times.

You can choose your route on the day, and which group you ride in. As stated above, we generally have several groups on the road, depending on how many people are riding, so it’s flexible and tailored to riders’ needs. The slowest group will generally wait for the slowest rider (or split into sub groups) but you should be able to manage 30kph on flat stretches with an average speed of around 22kph over the distance. Faster groups will be more speedy of course.
