WEST LONDON CYCLING

West London and Chilterns Cycling … plus loads more

It was cold and misty on day 4 of our Festive 500 quest, but 12 riders battled on for a most enjoyable ride out into the Chilterns. A stop at the Cock and Rabbit in The Lee and then for a photo at ‘The Admiral’. Where we encountered one of those unexpected magical moments when a local mother and son were also admiring the Ship’s Head and the young lad, we were told, wanted to be a professional cyclist when he grew up … so had his photo taken with us for publication here …. we should have got his name but got sidetracked when his mother captivated us by explaining that the Admiral was a legacy from Liberty’s depatment store in London as the original family owned the house it stands outside (plus some of the local land) …. ever wondered why we have the slogan ‘Routes and Culture’? …. anyway, thank you to ‘Mum’ for the insight, absolutely fascinating back story.
